Dear Band Directors,
We are excited to open the nomination link for the 2020 USF middle school honor band, “Symphonic Celebration,” to be held May 1-3 at the USF School of Music. Our festival features two concert bands comprised of middle school students, nominated by their band directors, from public and private schools throughout Florida. Our goal is to provide students with the highest levels of musical experiences through education and performance opportunities.
The nomination deadline is February 26; we will send acceptance notifications and make audition materials available on March 4. The nomination form can be found at the following link: http://music.arts.usf.edu/content/templates/?a=4412&z=418
The home page for the festival can be found at this link. We will update this page with a detailed schedule and other important information as it becomes available: http://music.arts.usf.edu/honor-band/
Each year the festival invites two guest conductors from throughout the United States to direct the various bands. This year’s conductors are Ms. Audrey Murphy (Director of Bands – Hopewell Middle School, Milton, GA), and Ms. Kim Bain (Director of Bands – Louis Pizitz Middle School, Vestavia Hills, AL). Throughout their stay, students will experience a multitude of concerts, masterclasses, and clinics hosted by USF’s School of Music faculty.
Please note that we do not provide housing accommodations for students during the festival, however we will be able to secure a conference rate for our campus hotel.
If you have any questions about the festival, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We look forward to another fantastic festival!
