Marching Band
The USF “Herd of Thunder” (“HOT”) Marching Band is 310 members strong in 2012! The HOT Band performs at all USF home football games in the 65,908 seat Raymond James Stadium (home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!), as well as selected away games and Bowl games. The Marching Band currently requires auditions for the Drumline, Colorguard, and all wind players. Rehearsals are Monday & Wednesday from 6-8:30pm, and Fridays (of game weeks only) from 6-8pm – rehearsals are open to the public and are located at Fowler Field. There is a modest fee to cover consumables (t-shirt, hat, etc), but members receive a “talent grant” (stipend) at the end of the season (subject to the availability of funds). All members of the Marching Band must register for the course and pay the applicable tuition and fees.
Pep Band
The USF Pep Band performs at all Men’s and Women’s home basketball games in the newly renovated 10,000 seat SunDome on the campus of USF. Students who have not marched with the Herd of Thunder must complete a short audition for the directors. The Pep Band will travel to support our basketball teams at the Men’s Big East Tournament in New York City, and the Women’s Big East Tournament in Hartford, CT – as well as any NCAA tournament appearances. All members of the Pep Band must register for the course and pay the applicable tuition and fees.
Show Band
The 30 piece USF Show Band is a scaled down version of the Marching Band which performs at USF events when it is not feasible to accommodate the full Band. Membership is granted through audition, and members receive a substantial stipend for the year. The show band is also available for hire to perform at special events. Please contact the Band Director for information on booking.
Winter Guard
USF Winterguard is a top-level competitive guard in WGI and FFCC. In 2012, they were the Silver Medalists in the WGI World Championships in Independent Open. Previously, they were finalists in the 2009 WGI World Championships in Independent Open, and the 2006 Bronze medalist in Independent A. Membership is open to both men and women through auditions, and membership in the Fall (field) guard is NOT a pre-requisite. Please contact Jamie Dyer (iblackbelt@aol.com) for more information.
Indoor Drumline
The Brahma Percussion Ensemble, competitively known as “Brahma from USF”, is a FFCC Independent Open Champion and WGI Championship Finalist. Members are selected through auditions in October/November, and membership in the Fall (Marching Band) Drumline is NOT a pre-requisite. Please contact Doug Moser for more information (dmperc@gmail.com) and check out their website at: www.brahmapercussion.org.
